Collect

Collect payments in WhatsApp with Paystack and Yoco links

Take deposits, call-out fees, order totals, add-ons and balances in the same chat where the customer said yes. They pay on the gateway's secure page, and the conversation picks up again once the payment is confirmed.

Paid, thanks. Unit C14 is yours from 1 November. Your access code follows on the day.

We send a Paystack or Yoco payment link in the chat; the customer pays on the gateway's secure page and the chat carries on as soon as the payment is confirmed. The money goes to your own gateway account, Meta bills you directly for the messages, and Euphony adds nothing to either.

Why take payment in the chat

Many South African businesses that sell over WhatsApp already take money there, just slowly. Someone sends bank details, the customer pays by EFT, sends a screenshot as proof of payment, and a person checks the bank statement before anything moves. Or the customer reads their card number to an agent over the phone.

A payment link fixes the slow part. The amount is set by the conversation or your system, the customer pays by card on Paystack's or Yoco's hosted checkout, and the gateway tells our platform once it's paid. Nobody has to match screenshots to statements, and the next step (the booking, the unit, the delivery, the receipt) happens straight away.

What already runs, and what we build

The payment side is existing code on our platform. The conversation around it is written for your business by our engineers, because we don't offer a do-it-yourself bot builder.

Paystack split paymentsRunsPayouts split through Paystack sub-accounts. Tell us what needs splitting and we'll confirm it fits

How it works, step by step

  1. The amount is agreedThe customer accepts a quote, picks an option from a list, or agrees a fee with your team. The amount comes from the conversation, a price list in the build, or your own system.
  2. We create the linkOur platform asks Paystack or Yoco for a hosted checkout for that amount and that customer.
  3. The link goes into the chatAs a plain link or as a message with a Pay button. The conversation waits here.
  4. The customer pays on the gateway's pageThey tap through to Paystack's or Yoco's secure page, pay by card, and come back to WhatsApp. Card details never pass through the chat.
  5. The gateway confirmsPaystack confirms by webhook, with polling as a back-up if the webhook is slow. Yoco confirms by webhook.
  6. The chat carries on"Paid, thanks", then whatever comes next: a booking confirmed, a receipt, a QuickBooks invoice, or an update to your own system.
  7. If nobody paysWe can build a follow-up that sends the link again after a set time. If the customer's 24-hour window has closed by then, it has to be an approved utility template.

Four ways payment collection plays out

These are patterns seen in the South African market, not Euphony clients. Names and amounts are examples.

Which message categories it uses, and what Meta charges

Meta charges per delivered message, by category, and bills you directly on your own WhatsApp account. Euphony adds nothing to Meta's rates, and the gateway's transaction fees are between you and Paystack or Yoco. South African rates from 1 October 2026:

MessageMeta categoryMeta's rate (South Africa)
Payment link sent while the customer is chatting (within 24 hours of their last message)Service1,000 free per number per month, then US$0.0095
"Paid, thanks" and the receipt, if the window is still openServiceSame as above
Payment request or follow-up sent later, after the window has closedUtility templateUS$0.0095
A utility template sent inside an open windowUtility templateUS$0.0095 (charged since 1 October 2026)
Messages the customer sends youn/aFree

So a typical in-chat payment (link, then confirmation) costs nothing in Meta fees until a number has used its 1,000 free service messages that month, and US$0.0095 a message after that. Meta decides a template's category when it reviews it, so we write payment requests as plain transactional messages, not promotions. Our pricing page has a rand calculator.

Three separate bills
  • Meta for messages, at Meta's rates, on the payment method in your WhatsApp Manager.
  • Paystack or Yoco for transaction fees, on your own gateway account. Check their pricing pages for current rates.
  • Euphony for building and running it: a one-off build from R15,000 ex VAT, plus R7,500 per integration, then a monthly fee from R4,950 ex VAT.
By industry

Variants by industry

The same pattern, with a different reason to pay and a different system to update afterwards.

What we need from you

  • A gateway account. An activated Paystack or Yoco business account that can take live payments, and its API keys. Payment links in the chat use one gateway per account, so choose one. Pick Paystack if you need saved cards or split payouts.
  • Your WhatsApp number. Connected through Meta's Embedded Signup, with a payment method in WhatsApp Manager for Meta's message charges.
  • What people pay for. The fees, deposits or products, and how each amount is set: fixed, from a price list, or from your system.
  • What happens after payment. The confirmation message, and where the payment should be recorded. QuickBooks Online you connect yourself; for any other system we need API access.
  • Your follow-up rules. Whether to send the link again if nobody pays, and after how long.
  • For live-chat payments. Who on your team sends payment requests and which system they work in, so we can agree how they start the payment step.
Good to know
  • The payment happens on Paystack's or Yoco's hosted page, opened from the chat. It isn't a payment feature built into WhatsApp.
  • Ozow, PayFast, Stripe and Peach don't run on our platform today.
  • Saved cards and split payouts are Paystack features on our platform, not Yoco ones.
  • We confirm payment from the gateway itself, so a screenshot is never treated as proof of payment.
Questions

WhatsApp payments FAQ

Which payment gateways can I use to take payments in WhatsApp?

Paystack and Yoco. Both already run on our platform. Payment links in the chat use one gateway per account, so you choose Paystack or Yoco. Ozow, PayFast, Stripe and Peach don't run on our platform today.

Does the customer leave WhatsApp to pay?

Briefly. The customer taps the link, pays on Paystack's or Yoco's secure hosted page, and comes back to the chat. Card details go to the gateway, never into WhatsApp. This isn't a payment feature built into WhatsApp itself.

Can it save a customer's card for repeat payments?

With Paystack, yes. Paystack saved cards run on our platform, including the 3-D Secure step when the bank asks for it. Yoco links are one payment at a time.

Can a WhatsApp payment raise an invoice?

In QuickBooks Online, yes. You connect QuickBooks to your account yourself, and we build a step into your conversation that raises the invoice once the payment is confirmed. That step is built around an order today, so for deposits or call-out fees we confirm the fit when we scope it. For other accounting or job systems we connect via their API as a custom build.

What does Meta charge for a WhatsApp payment link?

A link sent while the customer's 24-hour window is open is a service message: each number gets 1,000 free service messages a month, then US$0.0095 per delivered message in South Africa from 1 October 2026. A payment request sent later, outside the window, is a utility template at US$0.0095. Meta bills you directly and Euphony adds nothing to these rates. See Meta's pricing page.

Can my team send a payment link from the inbox?

Not with a button. The shared inbox has no "send payment link" button, so how your team starts the payment step is part of the build. One option is for your own system to send us the amount through an inbound webhook, which starts the payment step in that customer's chat. We agree the trigger with your team when we scope it.
