Calculator, prices ex VAT

WhatsApp ROI calculator

Does WhatsApp automation pay back for your business? Pick the job you want WhatsApp to do, put in your own numbers, and see the monthly benefit against what it costs to build and run, including Meta's message fees.

Last updated 26 October 2026

WhatsApp automation pays back when the monthly benefit is bigger than the monthly running cost, and the gap covers the one-off build in a reasonable time. With Euphony, the build is R15,000 plus R7,500 per integration (plus an optional R5,000 event storming session), the monthly plan starts at R4,950, and Meta bills you directly for messages at US$0.0379 per marketing message and US$0.0095 per utility, authentication or service message to a South African number. Some setups don't pay back, and the calculator will say so.

Five scenarios

Work out your return

Choose a scenario, then change any number. Results update as you type. Every price is ex VAT.

Example Example numbers. Replace them with yours. The defaults are illustrations, not industry statistics or promised results.

Scenario 1

Customer support

WhatsApp answers common questions from your own systems (order status, balances, opening hours), so your team handles fewer of them. Benefit is staff time saved.

For the costs below we suggest one conversation per enquiry and three service replies per enquiry.

Scenario 2

Bookings and reminders

Booking confirmations and reminders with buttons to confirm, move or cancel. Benefit is the appointments you recover from fewer no-shows.

We suggest two utility messages per appointment (a confirmation and a reminder, so two conversations) and one service reply.

Scenario 3

Payment reminders and collections

Due and overdue reminders with a pay link. Benefit is what you save on the invoices that now get paid on time: the cost of chasing them, or of carrying the debt for a month.

Your cost of a late invoice

We suggest one conversation and one utility message per reminder, and one service reply per invoice. The 1% fee on payments collected in the chat isn't included.

Scenario 4

Lead capture

Every enquiry gets an instant WhatsApp reply that qualifies it and creates the lead in your CRM. Benefit is the extra customers you win.

We suggest one conversation per lead, five service replies per lead and one utility follow-up.

Scenario 5

Switching from Wati or Twilio

A total-cost comparison. Wati and Twilio don't build or run your integrations, so today you pay their extras and markup, or your own developers. Benefit is what you stop paying each month; Euphony's side is its monthly plan. Meta's base message fees are the same with any provider, so they're left out of both sides.

Coming from

What Wati costs you today

Billing Example: annual
Wati rate card vs Meta, our comparison US$ per message above Meta's SA rate. Wati's SA rate card dated 1 October 2026, against Meta's rates from the same date

What Twilio costs you today

Twilio has no monthly platform fee. It adds a fee to every WhatsApp message, inbound and outbound. Source: twilio.com/en-us/whatsapp/pricing, opened 26 Oct 2026.

Re-pointing an existing integration to Euphony is priced like a new one: the R15,000 base build plus R7,500 per integration, so the one-off cost doesn't change.

An honest note. If you only need a shared inbox and broadcasts with no integrations, Wati's Growth plan is cheaper than us. Euphony makes sense when you need WhatsApp connected to your systems and someone to run it.

The return that isn't in the numbers. Not every return shows up in rand. With Euphony you work with a South African team that knows the local business environment, the payment and banking systems your customers use, how South Africans talk on WhatsApp, and the economic realities you plan around. You get support in your time zone, from engineers who built your setup, instead of a ticket queue overseas.

Your costs

One-off: build

R15,000 base build plus R7,500 per integration (each system we read from or write to, such as a booking system, CRM or ERP).

Monthly: Euphony plan

We pick the cheapest plan for your conversations: Starter R4,950 (1,000 included), Growth R9,950 (5,000) or Scale R19,950 (20,000), plus R2.50 per extra conversation.

Monthly: Meta message costs

Meta bills these to your card directly, in US dollars, at its South African rates from 1 October 2026. Euphony adds nothing. Source: Meta, Pricing on the WhatsApp Business Platform.

Conversations and message counts are suggested from the scenario. Change them to your own.

How we calculate

Every figure is per month unless it says one-off. All Euphony prices exclude VAT. Rand amounts are rounded for display only; the sums use the unrounded numbers.

Monthly benefit, by scenario

  • Customer supportenquiries × % answered automatically × staff minutes per enquiry ÷ 60 × staff cost per hour.
  • Bookings and remindersappointments × (no-shows today % − no-shows after reminders %) × value per appointment. If no-shows don't fall, the benefit is zero.
  • Payment reminders and collectionsoverdue invoices × extra % paid on time × your cost of a late invoice. That cost is either your chasing cost in rand per invoice, or the invoice value × your monthly carrying cost %.
  • Lead captureleads × (conversion with instant replies % − conversion today %) × value of a won customer. If conversion doesn't rise, the benefit is zero.
  • Switching from Wati(Wati plan + extra users × per-user fee + extra numbers × US$29 + trigger packs × US$40 + Astra agent + Wati's message premium) × rand per dollar + integration and maintenance hours × hourly rate. Plan prices: Growth US$69 monthly or US$59 annual (3 users, no extra users); Pro US$149 or US$119 (5 users, then US$39 each); Business at the price you enter (5 users, then US$89 each). Wati's message premium = marketing × premium + utility × premium + authentication × premium + chargeable service messages × premium, using the message counts under "Meta message costs". Default premiums are Wati's SA rate card minus Meta's rate: marketing US$0.0227 (US$0.0606 vs US$0.0379) and utility US$0.0076 (US$0.0171 vs US$0.0095). Authentication and service are not compared and default to 0.
  • Switching from Twilio(outbound messages + inbound messages) × Twilio's per-message fee (US$0.005) × rand per dollar + failed messages × US$0.001 × rand per dollar + your own development hours × hourly rate + your own hosting and monitoring. Twilio has no monthly platform fee.
  • Both switching optionsThe monthly benefit is what you stop paying each month. Euphony's side is the chosen plan plus any extra conversations. Meta's base message fees are the same with any provider, so they're left out of both sides; only Wati's premium above Meta counts. Re-pointing integrations you've already built is priced like a new build, so ticking that box doesn't change the one-off cost.

Costs

  • One-off costR5,000 event storming session (if ticked) + R15,000 build + R7,500 × integrations.
  • Euphony planFor each plan your integrations allow (Starter up to 2, Growth up to 5, Scale unlimited): plan price + R2.50 × conversations above its allowance. The cheapest wins; on a tie, the smaller plan. Starter is R4,950 with 1,000 conversations, Growth R9,950 with 5,000, Scale R19,950 with 20,000.
  • Meta message costs(marketing × US$0.0379 + (utility + authentication + chargeable service) × US$0.0095) × rand per dollar. Chargeable service = service messages − 1,000 × business phone numbers, and never below zero.
  • Monthly running costEuphony plan + Meta message costs (Euphony plan only when switching).

Results

  • Net monthly benefitmonthly benefit − monthly running cost.
  • Payback periodone-off cost ÷ net monthly benefit, in months. Shown only when the net benefit is above zero.
  • 12-month ROI(12 × monthly benefit − total 12-month cost) ÷ total 12-month cost, where total 12-month cost = one-off cost + 12 × monthly running cost.
  • Chartcumulative cost at month m = one-off cost + m × running cost; cumulative benefit = m × monthly benefit. Where the lines cross is the payback point.

Assumptions and what's left out

  • Benefits start in the first month after go-live and stay flat. There is no growth, seasonality or discounting, and the build time before go-live isn't counted.
  • Suggested conversation and message counts are rough guides from the scenario inputs, not measurements. Change them if you know your own.
  • Every message is delivered to a +27 number. Meta's volume discounts (above 100,000 utility or 300,000 authentication messages a month) are ignored, which slightly overstates Meta's fees at very high volumes.
  • Free messages from Click-to-WhatsApp ads, overage on integration calls and AI usage, the 1% fee on payments collected in the chat, your bank's foreign-currency fees, VAT, and your own team's time on the project are not included.
  • Meta's rates are its list rates for South Africa effective 1 October 2026, from Meta's pricing page (opened 26 October 2026). Wati's prices are from Wati's pricing page and Astra pricing, and its South African message rates from Wati's rate card dated 1 October 2026; the premium over Meta is our comparison. Twilio's US$0.005 per message and US$0.001 per failed message are from Twilio's WhatsApp pricing page. All competitor pages opened 26 October 2026. Prices change, so check the sources.

Questions about the calculator

Are the default numbers in the calculator typical results?

No. They are example numbers so the calculator shows something when it opens. They are not industry statistics and not a promise of results. Euphony does not publish client results. Replace every number with your own.

How does the calculator choose a Euphony plan?

It works out the monthly cost of each plan your number of integrations allows (Starter up to 2, Growth up to 5, Scale unlimited): the plan price plus R2.50 for every conversation above the plan's allowance. It picks the cheapest. Starter is R4,950 with 1,000 conversations, Growth R9,950 with 5,000, and Scale R19,950 with 20,000, all ex VAT.

What counts as a conversation?

A conversation is one customer's chat within a 24-hour window, however many messages it holds. A booking confirmation and a reminder sent on another day are two conversations.

Does Euphony add anything to Meta's message fees?

No. Codeswop, the company behind Euphony, is a Meta Tech Provider. You add your own card to your WhatsApp account and Meta bills you directly at Meta's rates. The calculator shows Meta's fees separately from Euphony's plan.

How does the switching scenario compare Wati or Twilio with Euphony?

It compares total monthly cost. Wati and Twilio don't build or run your integrations, so today you pay their extras and markup, or your own developers. For Wati that's the plan, extra users, numbers, triggers, the Astra agent, Wati's premium over Meta's message rates, and integration and maintenance hours. For Twilio it's the fee on every inbound and outbound message, failed-message fees, your own development hours, and hosting and monitoring. Euphony's side is its monthly plan. Meta's base message fees are the same with any provider, so they're left out of both sides. More on switching without moving your number.

Is Euphony cheaper than Wati?

Not always. If you only need a shared inbox and broadcasts with no integrations, Wati's Growth plan is cheaper than us. Euphony makes sense when you need WhatsApp connected to your systems and someone to run it. Part of the return isn't in rand: you get a South African team that knows the local business environment, culture and economy, and supports you in your time zone.

Do I have to book the event storming session?

The R5,000 event storming session is where we map your customer journey and agree a fixed build fee, and it can conclude that you shouldn't build. It is ticked by default. Untick it to see the build cost on its own. What happens in the session.

What does the calculator leave out?

VAT, Meta's volume discounts for very high utility and authentication volumes, free messages from Click-to-WhatsApp ads, overage on integration calls and AI usage, the 1% fee on payments collected in the chat, your bank's foreign-currency fees, and the time your own team spends on the project. It also assumes benefits start in the first month after go-live.
